Resting My Imagination

Gratitude and Learning Journal: Day 4

There are many days it seems hard to get rest.

I keep thinking about my work!

Around the time, I felt the need to do something about my fatigue, I found the Japanese book, “自衛隊メンタル教官が教える 心の疲れをとる技術 (朝日新書)” which I introduced to you in Gratitude and Learning Journal Day 1.

Thanks to it, I’m beginning to understand that I need to take rest consciously.

But psychological fatigue is hard to get rid of even when I lie down, because I keep worrying and thinking.

So, I remembered about mindfulness which suggests us to focus on here and now.

But it is hard.

Sir Ken Robinson, a great educator, wrote something like this in his book, “The Element.” “If we are not present in here and now, we are using our imagination. Because we have imagination, we can do great things like building a civilization.”

I agree it’s a wonderful strength to have, but because it’s good, I use it too much especially when I am anxious or worried, and it is tiring.

So, once in a while, I try to stop using my imagination, in order for me to rest my mind.

I feel my fatigue becomes lighter when I do that.
